beard entirely black in male; black in female, except for yellow hairs at extreme upper margin, in area behind top of eye hairs underneath the proboscis black palpal hairs black on both segments
mesonotum with a ground color of blue black; covered with long yellow hairs; anterior to transverse suture about equal numbers of these hairs either erect or recumbent, the latter of which more-or-less obscure the ground color; posterior to the suture the hairs are all erect and somewhat longer than those anteriorly, letting the ground color show through; in the area of the suture itself the hairs are sparser, and from the effect of the substrate showing through more strongly than either anteriorly or posteriorly, give the impression of a wide, faint, indistinct transverse darker band; posterior calli with long yellow hairs; as is usual these hairs are longer than those on the anterior mesonotum tuft of hairs in front of wings yellow tuft of hairs in front of haltere entirely yellow scutellar hairs on disk medium length, yellow, and slanted at about a 45 degree angle backwards; on margin long, erect, and yellow ground color of legs from a distance the ground color appears to be black, but when viewed with a dissecting microscope, from an angle the surface appears to be blue black, and when viewed directly, that is from right angles, with artificial light, it appears to be very dark reddish brown; the surface is also highly reflective and where yellow hairs are present on the tibiae, reflects these as reddish brown fore- and mid-tibiae entire posterior surface of fore-tibia and anterior, dorsal, and posterior surface of mid-tibiae, with yellow hairs hind tibiae mesal third of posterior surface with sparse yellow hair, which is most distinct when viewed from above level of fly hind femora line of scattered yellow hairs stretching from base to about three fourths way to apex; also "knee" or apex with conspicuous dorsal tuft of yellow hairs
