beard black in male, except possibly for a few adventituous yellow hairs dorsally near vertex; entirely black in female hairs underneath the proboscis black palpal hairs black on both segments
mesonotum covered, except for extreme lateral notopleurae, with medium-long yellow hairs, about one-third of which are erect, and two-thirds recumbent; the latter completely obscuring the ground color; the effect of this arrangement for some reason giving the thorax a slight greenish-yellow tint when viewed from a distance; this is especially so in the male; extreme lateral portions of notopleurae with strip of black hairs; posterior calli with long yellow hairs tuft of hairs in front of wings black tuft of hairs in front of haltere entirely black scutellar hairs on disk medium length, black, and slanted at about a 45 degree angle backwards; on margin long, erect, and black ground color of legs from a distance the ground color appears to be black, but when viewed with a dissecting microscope, from an angle the surface appears to be blue black, and when viewed directly, that is from right angles, with artificial light, it appears to be very dark reddish brown; the surface is also highly reflective and where yellow hairs are present on the tibiae, reflects these as light reddish brown fore- and mid-tibiae male with about apical third of posterior surface of the fore-tibiae, and entire length of the dorsal half of the mid-tibiae, with yellow hairs; female similar, except that the fore-tibiae are entirely black haired hind tibiae black haired hind femora black haired, including "knee" or apex (hind leg is entirely black haired)
