mesonotum in male evenly covered, except for extreme lateral notopleurae, with medium-long yellow hairs, about one-third of which are erect, and two-thirds recumbent; the latter completely obscuring the ground color; these hairs do not strike one as being quite as thickly set as those of the closely-related L. macquarti, although from a distance they do exhibit the same slight greenish-yellow tint; extreme lateral portions of notopleurae with strip of erect black hairs; posterior calli with long yellow hairs; female similar, except that hairs on notopleurae are yellow (but never-the-less the extreme lateral notopleurae appear black, because the black ground color of the cuticle shows through) tuft of hairs in front of wings black tuft of hairs in front of haltere mixed black and yellow scutellar hairs in male medium length, black, and slanted at about a 45 degree angle backwards on disk; on margin long, erect, and black; female similar, except that 1) a few yellow hairs are present on the anterior portion of the disk, 2) the hairs on the posterior portion of the disk are so short, thin and sparsely distributed that the ground color of the cuticle is obvious, making the scutellum appear black from a distance in spite of the yellow hairs anteriorly, and 3) a few of the marginal hairs are yellow ground color of legs from a distance the ground color appears to be black, but when viewed with a dissecting microscope, from an angle the surface appears to be blue black, and when viewed directly, that is from right angles, with artificial light, it appears to be very dark reddish brown; the surface is also highly reflective and where yellow hairs are present on the tibiae, reflects these as light reddish brown fore- and mid-tibiae male with most of posterior surface of the fore-tibiae, and entire length of the dorsal half of the mid-tibiae, with yellow hairs; female similar, except that on the fore-tibiae the yellow hairs are sparse and not at all prominent, making the appendage look black from a distance hind tibiae black-haired hind femora with dorsal flange of long yellow hairs, reaching from near base to about three-fourths distance to apex; apex or "knee" entirely black haired
