Redescription


HEAD
    face hairs erect on central portion of upper face, black; on lateral portions also black, somewhat procumbent, and projecting over gibbosity to each side; on gibbosity all the hairs are erect, and all or nearly all are black, in the latter case a few yellow hairs are present in the center; area framed on each side of the oral margin by the gibbosity dorsally, and the inner margin of the eye dorsolaterally, is bare

    beard in male, entirely yellow posterioly and dorsally, anteriorly with a line of black hairs along posterior margin of lower two-thirds of compound eye; female identical, except that the line of black hairs bordering the eye is thicker, and enlarges as it proceeds ventrally, to occupy entire "depth" of beard

    hairs underneath the proboscis yellow in male, black in female

    palpal hairs black on both first and second segments

THORAX
    postpronotal lobes with long yellow hairs

    mesonotum covered, except for notopleural areas, with long, erect yellow hairs, which let the ground color of blue black show through, the two together producing an olive green tint when viewed from a distance; these yellow hairs increase slightly in length on posterior calli; notopleurae with black hairs; recumbent hairs absent

    tuft of hairs in front of wings black

    tuft of hairs in front of haltere entirely black

    scutellar hairs disk covered with medium-length to long black hairs, grading into long black hairs on margin

    ground color of legs from a distance the ground color appears to be black, but when viewed with a dissecting microscope, from an angle the surface appears to be blue black, and when viewed directly, that is from right angles, with artificial light, it appears to be very dark reddish brown; the surface is also highly reflective and where yellow hairs are present on the tibiae, reflects these as light reddish brown

    fore- and mid-tibiae fore-tibiae with long yellow hairs dorsally and posteriorly, mid-tibiae with long yellow hairs anteriorly, dorsally, and posteriorly

    hind tibiae male with long, light-yellow hairs dorsally and posteriorly on mesal half; these light-colored hairs are not very prominent; tibiae black-haired in female

    hind femora thick line of bright yellow hairs stretching dorsally from near base to about three fourths way to apex, "knee" or apex black haired

ABDOMEN
    abdominal segments tergites entirely covered with black hairs
